Course Description

This course focuses on classroom activities, during which students will discuss, read, listen to and write on particular topics together. Ideally, the course will enable students to develop and express their own insights and experience with respect to different aspects of the English as a foreign language. At the same time the course wants to integrate technology as a way to help students in their multiliteracy development and the learning of a new language.

Course Objectives
1. To encourage students’ critical thinking on the relationship between language and culture.
2. To encourage students' oral and written exchange and interaction
3. To use web 2.0 tools to learn EFL and multiliteracies.
4. To participate in international collaboration communities or social networks.

Evaluation Criteria＆Grading
First term= 10 + 10 pts 30%
Second term= 10 + 10 pts 30%
Project presentations + Attendance, Homework, Quizzes and Class participation = 10 + 10 pts 40%
** Bonus tasks get extra credits

Course Requirement＆ Attendance Policies
1. Active participation in classroom discussions and activities is expected from all students.
2. Cell phones and beepers should be turned off in class.
3. Being more than 15 minutes late will be counted as an absence.
4. More than three unexcused absences will result in a failing grade.
5. No make-up presentations will be permitted, except in case of documented emergency.

Unit 6: Prepare a questionnaire of ten questions and practice answering those questions with the information related to the job you selected, cover letter and resume. Be ready to interview a partner and record your interview.
A visit to the UWA 3D Open Art Challenge. Please visit the place and write a post of your visit. Consider the following questions to help you write your report on this adventure in a virtual world.

Tutorial on how to get started in Second Life

Creating an Avatar in Second Life
Your first step is to create an avatar on Second Life. You can try it alone by going to http://www.secondlife.com and click on JOIN NOW or you can watch the following video. This vdieo is a video tutorial taken from The university of Texas at Brownsville

You will need to have been born before August 1, 1992 to get an avatar that can go to URBE EFL Center.

After you have created your avatar, you will need to download a viewer to your computer. When you complete the avatar tutorial on Second Life they will instruct you to download their viewer. There are other options.We recommend the Phoenix Firestorm viewer. This viewer is more reliable, creates less lag, and easy to use. Click here for an instructional video on the Phoenix Firestorm viewer.

If you prefer the Second Life viewer and missed the download, you can find on this webpage http://www.secondlife.com. Scroll to the bottom of the page and download the viewer.The difference between the viewers is that the Second Life viewer often has more advanced visual and audio features. The downside is that the Second Life viewer has many updates that are not always stable. Click here to download the Phoenix Firestorm viewer.

1. If you are using the SL viewer, change your viewer from Basic to Advanced. If you fail to do this you will not be able to do all the fun things. If you are on Advanced, you will see tabs on the left and extra features on the bottom tab of your viewer. See the image on the right.

2. Now log on to your viewer and put Pionia Destiny in the Search Box on the top right. Click on People and you will see the name. Click on Profile and make Pionia Destiny a friend. I will know you are on and be able to provide assistance. You only have to send me an IM.

3. To go to URBE EFL Center you just have to click on the following link: http://slurl.com/secondlife/The%20Mist/213/86/21

*Important*
You must belong to the group:..EFL Center in SL. Send an IM to Pionia Destiny asking to be invited to the group or look into Pionia Destiny Profile and look for URBE EFL Center in SL group there. Once you have found it, just click and join.

CAUTIONS:
Virtual Worlds are just like the Internet. As a representative of URBE you are to conduct yourself professionally at all times. Just like the Internet it is easy to put information up, but you can never take it down. Do not say or do anything that you would not want your Grandmother or a future employer to see.

Well, we got to the third term. Time to work on finishing the project. But what's the project about? well, we are designing a campaign for our most important event. "Chinita's Fair". This time the products created for the campaign will be exhibit it in our URBE EFL Center in SL.

An advertising campaign is a specific course of action designed to advertise a company, cause, or product that employs an intentional and carefully coordinated series of marketing tools in order to reach the target audience. The end purpose of any ad campaign is to boost awareness of the subject matter and generate demand. The exact structure of the advertising campaign will often depend on the nature of the product or cause and the target audience that the campaign is designed to reach.

While specifics vary from one advertising campaign to another, some of the same tools are used in just about any campaign. Both print and electronic media are often used to generate attention and enthusiasm for the subject of the campaign, often with the logical and timely launch of different tools at specific points in the overall campaign. While in time past, electronic media referred more to television and radio broadcasts, that component now includes tools such as online banner ads, text messaging, and email advertisements.

'Titilina's Playful Visit to UWA', by Paloma Bigbear, the first Argentinean artist to participate in any UWA event features numerous award winning artworks that had been part of the UWA 3D Open Art Challenge. This machinima is now part of MachinimUWA IV: Art of the Artists, which unites the powerhouses of virtual worlds, Artists and Machinimatographers!

Entries to the L$300,000 MachinimUWA IV close on the 10th of November and looks for the creation of machinima featuring artworks that are part of the UWA 3D Open Art Challenge.

About English, I love to learn new languages. I think English is very important. What do I do to practice my English? well, I listen to music and watch TV in English. It’s a good exercise. I can write well, but I need to practice more. The most difficult for me is speaking. I want to practice in class and out of class, too. Welcome, everybody!

This new trimester, we will be working with English for Work. But what is that? you may be asking yourself. Well, let's try to explain what it is about. To start with:

It is mostly about learning and practicing your English.
It is about learning English related to your field of expertise. So if you are an engineering student for instance. You will be reading, listening to, writing and talking about English for engineers and English for working as an engineer.
It is about learning English using technology. That means we will be using computers and Internet to find real updated information concerning your different interests. We are going to experiment and play with new ways to learn autonomously. Learning for life. Learning to learn. Learning by doing. We will be watching and listening to videos as well as making videos. We'll have the chance to use different tools to express your ideas and read about ideas.
It is about learning and practicing your English in groups, in community. Be ready to meet students and teachers from the university and the world. Of course, there will be tasks you must complete on your own.

That was a general description of the course. Now, how the classes take place:

Classes are going to be held at the lab. I f you can't come to classes, you can connect at home or wherever you have access to a computer and Internet.
You need to get a google account, since we will using different tools provided by Google. make sure to register to Gmail, Google Reader, Google Talk, Google Doc, secondlife, twitter, facebook and Blogger
Blogs are going to be your personal journals. There you will register everything we do in class. All your homework and tasks should be there.
Every class will be a taken as a workshop or TALLER. Try not to miss your classes and if you do, keep your blog updated.
Homework will be assigned for each one of the units covered in class. The dateline to hand in your homework will be the day of your test. It means you will have the chance to work on your blog till the exam day.
Corrections to writing will be done through Google documents.

Assesment

Things you need to do to take this class:

Get a Gmail account and register to Google services: reader, Google talk, reader and blogger.
Get a blog at Blogger. For instructions on how to that get the power point presentation from our box or follow the tutorial prepared by Vance Stevens.

Welcome, everybody!

This new trimester, we will be working with English for Work. But what is that? you may be asking yourself. Well, let's try to explain what it is about. To start with:

It is mostly about learning and practicing your English.
It is about learning English related to your field of expertise. So if you are an engineering student for instance. You will be reading, listening to, writing and talking about English for engineers and English for working as an engineer.
It is about learning English using technology. That means we will be using computers and Internet to find real updated information concerning your different interests. We are going to experiment and play with new ways to learn autonomously. Learning for life. Learning to learn. Learning by doing. We will be watching and listening to videos as well as making videos. We'll have the chance to use different tools to express your ideas and read about ideas.
It is about learning and practicing your English in groups, in community. Be ready to meet students and teachers from the university and the world. Of course, there will be tasks you must complete on your own.

That was a general description of the course. Now, how the classes take place:

Classes are going to be held at the lab. I f you can't come to classes, you can connect at home or wherever you have access to a computer and Internet.
You need to get a google account, since we will using different tools provided by Google. make sure to register to Gmail, Google Reader, Google Talk, Google Doc, and Blogger
Blogs are going to be your personal journals. There you will register everything we do in class. All your homework and tasks should be there.
Every class will be a taken as a workshop or TALLER. Try not to miss your classes and if you do, keep your blog updated.
Homework will be assigned for each one of the units covered in class. The dateline to hand in your homework will be the day of your test. It means you will have the chance to work on your blog till the exam day.
Corrections to writing will be done through Google documents.

Assesment

Things you need to do to take this class:

Get a Gmail account and register to Google services: reader, Google talk, reader and blogger.
Get a blog at Blogger. For instructions on how to that get the power point presentation from our box or follow the tutorial prepared by Vance Stevens.

Benchmarks:

At the end of this class. I should have:
- Read my class guidelines
- Met my new classmates
- Worked with the introductory task
- Registered at Google and have a Gmail account.
- Registered to Google readers.
- Registered to Google doc.
- Downloaded Google Talk and activated my IM.

Hi, there! My name’s Juan Gonzalez but you can call me Juanchi. I’m from Maracaibo, originally. I live in Maracaibo, in Monte Claro. I’m 20 years old and I study engineering at URBE . My favorite subjects are mathematics and English. This trimester I am taking 4 classes and I am in the 7th trimester.

I love music, dancing, playing soccer, driving my car (I have a red sport car), surfing the net, studying English, talking on the phone with my friends, pizza , chocolate, my family , my country and my dog.

I hate onions, smoking, listening to hip hop, getting up early on the weekend, violence, war, injustice, and washing the dishes.

My dream is to travel around the world, visit the Pyramids in Egypt and The Eiffel Tower in Paris. Of course, I want to graduate from Engineering School and be a good engineer. I also want to learn to speak French, and Italian. I’d love to work in an important company and buy a house, get married and start a family.

About English, I love to learn new languages. I think English is very important. I listen to music and watch TV in English. It’s a good exercise. I also chat on the internet and have friends in many countries. I can write well, but I need to practice more. The most difficult for me is speaking. I want to practice in class and out of class, too. I hope I can make a lot of friends and practice speaking in this class.

Wow! Even the NBA goes green. I found this interesting article about basketball players that go green. If you go to the NBA site, you will find the following tips on how we can go green:

Tip #1: Surfing the Net?
Shut off your home laptop or desktop computer, monitor and printer when you aren't using them. You can cut energy costs by shutting off devices you're not using them.

Tip #2: Time for a Tune-up
Get regular tune-ups for your car's engine, change the oil and keep your tires inflated properly. Proper maintenance can increase your car's fuel efficiency and reduce emissions.

Tip #3: Simply Unplug
Are you charging your cell phone or other electronics? Unplug chargers for cell phones, cameras and other hand-held products when they aren't charging so you can save power.

Tip #4: Stopping for Snacks
When you're taking a snack break, look to only take only one napkin when you order food or beverages, and refuse a bag unless you really need one.

Tip #5: Fill Up for Gas?
Check your tire pressure. If we kept our tires properly inflated, we could save 2.8 billion gallons of gasoline a year and help curb global warming pollution

Who is it for?

David Merrill: Siftables, the toy blocks that think

David Merrill is a grad student in the Fluid Interfaces Group at MIT's Media Lab. He and his fellow students in this group work on new technologies that give us more and better abilities to do things we want to do. His main interest now is the Siftables project, the subject of his TEDTalk, on which he works with Jeevan Kalanithi. In another field of inquiry, Merrill is looking at ways to access digital information in the wider world, when we are away from a traditional computer.

A musician himself, Merril also has a deep interest in new musical interfaces. His Adaptive Music Controller is an instrument that learns its player (rather than the player learning the instrument). And working musicians should check out his AudioPint, a portable case that consolidates instruments, effects and audio processors into a gig-safe rugged housing.

Welcome, everybody!

This new trimester, we will be working with English for Work. But what is that? you may be asking yourself. Well, let's try to explain what it is about. To start with:

It is mostly about learning and practicing your English.
It is about learning English related to your field of expertise. So if you are an engineering student for instance. You will be reading, listening to, writing and talking about English for engineers and English for working as an engineer.
It is about learning English using technology. That means we will be using computers and Internet to find real updated information concerning your different interests. We are going to experiment and play with new ways to learn autonomously. Learning for life. Learning to learn. Learning by doing. We will be watching and listening to videos as well as making videos. We'll have the chance to use different tools to express your ideas and read about ideas.
It is about learning and practicing your English in groups, in community. Be ready to meet students and teachers from the university and the world. Of course, there will be tasks you must complete on your own.

That was a general description of the course. Now, how the classes take place:

Classes are going to be held at the lab. I f you can't come to classes, you can connect at home or wherever you have access to a computer and Internet.
You need to get a google account, since we will using different tools provided by Google. make sure to register to Gmail, Google Reader, Google Talk, Google Doc, and Blogger
Blogs are going to be your personal journals. There you will register everything we do in class. All your homework and tasks should be there.
Every class will be a taken as a workshop or TALLER. Try not to miss your classes and if you do, keep your blog updated.
Homework will be assigned for each one of the units covered in class. The dateline to hand in your homework will be the day of your test. It means you will have the chance to work on your blog till the exam day.
Corrections to writing will be done through Google documents.

Assesment

Things you need to do to take this class:

Get a Gmail account and register to Google services: reader, Google talk, reader and blogger.
Get a blog at Blogger. For instructions on how to that get the power point presentation from our box or follow the tutorial prepared by Vance Stevens.
Register to the EFL University Ning social network. Make sure to write name, last name and class session you belong to when registering at our social network.

Write your resume... you can select the kind of resume you want. Make sure your resume includes everything you need to get the job you selected and wrote a cover letter for.

Here you can see several examples of video resumes to help you create yours...Vault also suggests the following Video Resume Format

* State your first and last name. ("Hello, my name is Jane Smith.")

* State your educational background, including university and major. If you graduated with honors or a high GPA, you should say so. ("I graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 2003 cum laude, with a political science major." )

* If you are applying for a specific position, state why you are interested in the position and the company in particular.

* If you are not applying for a specific position (e.g., you are doing a video resume for a position in sales), simply state that you are looking for a position at your desired experienced level in the industry. ("I am looking for an entry-level position as an account executive." If you are applying for jobs in different industries, for example, in marketing and in PR, you should tape two separate video resumes.

Welcome, everybody!

This new trimester, we will be working with English for Work. But what is that? you may be asking yourself. Well, let's try to explain what it is about. To start with:

It is mostly about learning and practicing your English.
It is about learning English related to your field of expertise. So if you are an engineering student for instance. You will be reading, listening to, writing and talking about English for engineers and English for working as an engineer.
It is about learning English using technology. That means we will be using computers and internet to find real updated information concerning your different interests. We are going to experiment and play with new ways to learn autonomously. Learning for life. Learning to learn. Learning by doing. We will watching and listening to videos as well as making videos. We'll have the chance to use different tools to express your ideas and read about ideas.
It is about learning and practicing your English in groups, in community. Be ready to meet students and teachers from the university and the world. Of course, there will be tasks you must complete on your own.

That was a general description of the course. Now, how the classes take place:

Classes are going to be held at the lab. I f you can't come to classes, you can connect at home or wherever you have access to a computer and Internet.
You need to get a google account, since we will using different tools provided by Google. make sure to register to Gmail, Google Reader, Google Talk, Google Doc, and Blogger
Blogs are going to be your personal journals. There you will register everything we do in class. All your homework and tasks should be there.
Every class will be a taken as a workshop or TALLER. Try not to miss your classes and if you do, keep your blog updated.
Homework will be assigned for each one of the units covered in class. The dateline to hand in your homework will be the day of your test. It means you will have the chance to work on your blog till the exam day.
Corrections to writing will be done through Google documents.

Assesment

Things you need to do to take this class:

Get a Gmail account and register to Google services: reader, Google talk, reader and blogger.
Get a blog at Blogger. For instructions on how to that get the power point presentation from our box or follow the tutorial prepared by Vance Stevens.
Register to the International Collaboraction Ning social network. You need an invitation from your teacher or from one of your classmates. Make sure to write name, last name and class session you belong to when registering at our social network.
Take these surveys: My EFL Classes , what I know about technology use in my English class

Benchmarks:

At the end of this class. I should have:
- Read my class guidelines
- Met my new classmates
- Worked with the introductory task
- Registered at Google and have a Gmail account.
- Registered to Google readers.
- Registered to Google doc.
- Downloaded Google Talk and activated my IM.
- Opened my Blogger account and posted my first entry.
- Registered at the International Collaboration Ning social network
- Taken two surveys

Assignment for this class:

Write your first blog entrance: Introduce yourself. Use Task 0. Get the task from the file box.
Introduce yourself and two new friends. Click on the link and use those questions to interview your partners.
Post the interview in your blog. Add a photo of your partners.

Well, now you're about to graduate... and comes the hard task of finding a job... So, where do we start? A good way to find a job is by looking for the perfect job in the internet. Let's get ready to ship off in this exciting adventure!

Finding a Job!

First of all... ask yourself this question: What do you want to do? What can you do? What are you certified or will be certified ...soon... to do?
Next, go to Yahoo Hot Jobs , Monster.com or Vault and try to located a job you'd like to have. This is how your degree is called in the United States or these are your Certifications.

Now, that you have selected a job, apply on line and check on vocabulary.

When it comes to a fruitful online job search, successful job seekers follow these 10 guidelines.

1. If you build it, they can come. Instead of simply posting your resume on a Web site, take it one step further and design an easily-navigable Web site or online portfolio where recruiters can view your body of work, read about your goals and obtain contact information.

2. Check yourself to make sure you haven't wrecked yourself. Google yourself to see what comes up -- and what potential employers will see if they do the same. If you don't like what you find, it's time to do damage control.

3. Narrow your options. Many job boards offer filters to help users refine their search results more quickly. You should have the option to narrow your job search by region, industry and duration, and, oftentimes, you can narrow it even more by keywords, company names, experience needed and salary.

4. Go directly to the source. Instead of just applying for the posted job opening, one of the best strategies to finding a job is to first figure out where you want to work, target that company or industry and then contact the hiring manager. Also, many employers' career pages invite visitors to fill out candidate profiles, describing their background, jobs of interest, salary requirements and other preferences.

6. Try online recruiters. Recruiters will help match you with jobs that meet your specific skills and needs. Not sure where to start? Sites such as recruiterlink.com, onlinerecruitersdirectory.com, searchfirm.com and i-recruit.com provide links to online headhunters for job seekers.

7. Utilize video resumes. Video resumes are just one more way to stand out to employers. Intended as supplements to -- not replacements for -- traditional resumes, video resumes allow job seekers to showcase a little bit of their personalities and highlight one or two points of interest on their resumes.

8. Run queries. You run searches on everything else, from your high school sweetheart to low-fat recipes, so why not jobs? Enter a query that describes the exact kind of job you're seeking and you may find more resources you wouldn't find otherwise (but be prepared to do some sorting).

9. Utilize job alerts. Most job boards have features that allow you to sign up to receive e-mail alerts about newly available jobs that match your chosen criteria. Or go a step further and arrange an RSS (really simple syndication) feed from one of these job sites to appear on your customized Internet homepage or your PC's news-reader software.

10. Get connected. How many times have you been told that it's not what you know, but who you know? Thanks to the emergence of professional networking sites like LinkedIn.com, job seekers no longer have to rely on the old standby of exchanging business cards with strangers. These sites are composed of millions of industry professionals and allow you to connect with people you know and the people they know and so forth. (A word of caution: When you sign up for online social networking sites, you are in a public domain. Hi! My name is Tine Buechler from Business Growth Training and I am here today on behalf of Expert Village.com. I want to talk about in this clip the electronic component of job search. I haven’t talked about this so far. When you are looking for work, more and more job postings are available on line. You can e-mail resumes. All of that is becoming more and more common. There are some tips though that would make you be more successful in this process and there are some traps to be careful about.
Number 1 if you are going to attach your resume and you are going to be e-mailing it and attaching it, make sure that your title you have given to that document is respectful. Resume “Number 17” is not a good title for a resume. As the employer opens it and they will see resume 17, what kind of positive impact will that have. So the best way to do is to name your resume by your last name, your first name and identify it as your resume like your cover letter; last name, first name and cover letter or if you want to shorten it CL. Your references as well; your last name first, first name and indicate that they are references. Any documents that you are sending make sure that they are labeled by your name so that the employer is not getting any information that you don’t want them to get. The second thing you need to consider is what format you are using. When e-mailing by word to another computer and opened by another version of word, could actually change the whole formatting. Make sure you use the basic font. If you want to be sending your resume by e-mail, Times New Roman or Ariel is the two best fonts to use. They are the ones that have the least difficulty when changing from different programs and when changing from different versions of different programs. They maintain their integrity which is very important because I have seen some resumes come through that I can’t read. They’ve all ended up to be little boxes and things because people have chosen a font that my computer doesn’t recognize and doesn’t read. The next thing if you can at all, I would PDF your resume. Really get it into a picture format rather than something that people can doctor. That way no matter who you send it to when they open your resume, it will still maintain a good format and it can’t be changed. The integrity of your documents stays the same. When you are copying and pasting your resume into an electronic application again, use a font of Times New Roman or Ariel. Those are the ones that transfer best over the web. Be careful when you are doing an electronic job search just because it didn’t bounce back doesn’t mean it didn’t arrive safely. Make sure that in your subject line you have the information that you need in the subject line so that the information can be received. Always follow-up an electronic application with a phone call to ensure that it has been received. If you choose to use this method of application and it is very successful, it can be very successful as long as you apply the principals accurately.

Second unit is about using an Online dictionary, identifying parts of speech and working with definitions.

Let's start with how to use Online Dictionaries. The following article By eHow Internet Editor, recomends:

Unless you're a genius or you have memorized Merriam-Webster from A to Z, you need a dictionary every once in a while. Book dictionaries are helpful, but unfortunately they aren't very speedy. Hop online and you can quickly find multiple definitions for the same word. Here's how to use an online dictionary.

Step 1. Determine whether you will utilize a free or members-only, fee-oriented dictionary. There are plenty of free dictionary websites and plenty of sites that require paid membership. Usually the free dictionaries are just as effective. However, membership dictionaries offer extra benefits, like audio pronunciation of words. If you learn best by hearing things, you will benefit from paying for an online dictionary with this service.

Step 2. Use your favorite search engine, such as Yahoo, Google, Ask or MSN to search for an online dictionary. The phrase "online dictionary" will return a plethora of sites from which to choose.

Step 3. Select a preferred website and enter the term you are inquiring about in the search bar, usually found at the top of the webpage.

Step 4. Browse the results of your word search to find multiple definitions, grammar rules, variations of the word, synonyms, antonyms and proper part of speech.

Step 5. Combine an online dictionary with an online thesaurus to maximize the use of the tool. For example, look up the word "beautiful" at dictionary.com, then click on the tab to utilize the thesaurus at thesaurus.com. The dictionary will describe the word, and the thesaurus will provide words with similar meanings.

Step 6. Choose a dictionary search engine for definitions from many websites at once. Engines such as onelook.com narrow your search for you by pulling up only web dictionaries. For example, if you type in the word "smart," One Look will provide you with 25-50 web dictionaries that offer a definition. This is a great way to get a well-rounded definition of a word.

Now, when using a dictionary it's useful to identify the different Parts of Speech, that will help us understand the meaning of the words when reading an article in English. The writing Center of the University of Ottawa describes the parts of speech as follow:

Traditional grammar classifies words based on eight parts of speech: the verb, the noun, the pronoun, the adjective, the adverb, the preposition, the conjunction, and the interjection.
Each part of speech explains not what the word is, but how the word is used. In fact, the same word can be a noun in one sentence and a verb or adjective in the next. The next few examples show how a word's part of speech can change from one sentence to the next, and following them is a series of sections on the individual parts of speech, followed by an exercise.

Books are made of ink, paper, and glue.
In this sentence, "books" is a noun, the subject of the sentence.

Deborah waits patiently while Bridget books the tickets.
Here "books" is a verb, and its subject is "Bridget."

We walk down the street.
In this sentence, "walk" is a verb, and its subject is the pronoun "we".

The mail carrier stood on the walk.
In this example, "walk" is a noun, which is part of a prepositional phrase describing where the mail carrier stood.

The town decided to build a new jail.
Here "jail" is a noun, which is the object of the infinitive phrase "to build."

The sheriff told us that if we did not leave town immediately he would jail us.
Here "jail" is part of the compound verb "would jail."

They heard high pitched cries in the middle of the night.
In this sentence, "cries" is a noun acting as the direct object of the verb "heard."

The baby cries all night long and all day long.
But here "cries" is a verb that describes the actions of the subject of the sentence, the baby.

Choose at 3 sentences per paragraph.

It's a fun site where you can learn about materials. They have games, experiments, videos and more that tackle the four big things materials scientists study.

Alexis Pirela is an electronics engineering student, You can visit his blog "Electronic's Blog" and read more about him. He posted a link to a great Electronics Glossary.

This glossary was abstracted from the book, Bebop to the Boolean Boogie (An Unconventional Guide to Electronics), with the kind permission of LLH Technology Publishing, Eagle Rock, VA, USA.

Unit 1. Getting ready to rock and roll! Getting tools to find info on your field of expertise!

Hello, there! well, in this class we are going to learn how to get information from a site like www.answers.com.

We are going to download the alt+click widget and installed it in our computers at the lab. You can download this tool at home and use it as a dictionary every time you find a new word in English and want to know what it means. All you have to do is to Alt-Click on any word in any program on your screen for a pop-up window with a concise definition of the word.

We are also going to work with our blogs. Add some interesting links to your blog. To do that:

Just get into your dashboard in your blog,
click on Design and then
click on Add a New Gadget.
After that, select Link List and add all the links you consider important.
It would be nice if you added our class blog Doris3m EFL Center English for Work to your blog.

In order to get interesting links search in Google for glossaries, terminologies, magazines, organizations, etc.... related to your field of expertise, that is if you are in Engineering School or Graphic Desing School you are supposed to find links with terminologies and materials related to engineering, or graphic design.

Next, download the first class from our file box.... a power point presentation called Ingles estrategico ocupacional. There you can find some guidelines on how to use an online dictionary and a thesaurus. We practice by using a word map to learn how to identify the different speech parts.

Go to www.answers.com, read some definitions of Graphic Design and write a post with your own definition of Graphic Design.
Interview a Graphic designer.Use these questions. Remmeber to add a photo of the person you interview.
Look for an article related to your field of expertise. Read your article. Select two paragraphs from it. Check on new words using Alt-Click . Write new words and definitions. You can illustrate the words with pictures if necessary. Write at least 4 words.
Write a summary of the article selected (include the new words). Don't forget to add the link to the article and write about the author.
