Tutorial on how to get started in Second Life

Creating an Avatar in Second Life
Your first step is to create an avatar on Second Life. You can try it alone by going to http://www.secondlife.com and click on JOIN NOW or you can watch the following video. This vdieo is a video tutorial taken from The university of Texas at Brownsville

You will need to have been born before August 1, 1992 to get an avatar that can go to URBE EFL Center.

After you have created your avatar, you will need to download a viewer to your computer. When you complete the avatar tutorial on Second Life they will instruct you to download their viewer. There are other options. We recommend the Phoenix Firestorm viewer. This viewer is more reliable, creates less lag, and easy to use. Click here for an instructional video on the Phoenix Firestorm viewer.

If you prefer the Second Life viewer and missed the download, you can find on this webpage http://www.secondlife.com. Scroll to the bottom of the page and download the viewer. The difference between the viewers is that the Second Life viewer often has more advanced visual and audio features. The downside is that the Second Life viewer has many updates that are not always stable. Click here to download the Phoenix Firestorm viewer.

1. If you are using the SL viewer, change your viewer from Basic to Advanced. If you fail to do this you will not be able to do all the fun things. If you are on Advanced, you will see tabs on the left and extra features on the bottom tab of your viewer. See the image on the right.

2. Now log on to your viewer and put Pionia Destiny in the Search Box on the top right. Click on People and you will see the name. Click on Profile and make Pionia Destiny a friend. I will know you are on and be able to provide assistance. You only have to send me an IM.

3. To go to URBE EFL Center you just have to click on the following link: http://slurl.com/secondlife/The%20Mist/213/86/21

*Important*
You must belong to the group:..EFL Center in SL. Send an IM to Pionia Destiny asking to be invited to the group or look into Pionia Destiny Profile and look for URBE EFL Center in SL group there. Once you have found it, just click and join.

CAUTIONS:
Virtual Worlds are just like the Internet. As a representative of URBE you are to conduct yourself professionally at all times. Just like the Internet it is easy to put information up, but you can never take it down. Do not say or do anything that you would not want your Grandmother or a future employer to see.

Final project Sep-Dec 2011

Well, we got to the third term. Time to work on finishing the project. But what's the project about? well, we are designing a campaign for our most important event. "Chinita's Fair". This time the products created for the campaign will be exhibit it in our URBE EFL Center in SL.

An advertising campaign is a specific course of action designed to advertise a company, cause, or product that employs an intentional and carefully coordinated series of marketing tools in order to reach the target audience. The end purpose of any ad campaign is to boost awareness of the subject matter and generate demand. The exact structure of the advertising campaign will often depend on the nature of the product or cause and the target audience that the campaign is designed to reach.
While specifics vary from one advertising campaign to another, some of the same tools are used in just about any campaign. Both print and electronic media are often used to generate attention and enthusiasm for the subject of the campaign, often with the logical and timely launch of different tools at specific points in the overall campaign. While in time past, electronic media referred more to television and radio broadcasts, that component now includes tools such as online banner ads, text messaging, and email advertisements.

We have to thank professor Nuris Zambrano for the help she gave us in this project. On her visit to our class she left us some guidelines on how to work with a campaign:

Graphic Concept:
Selecting key words
2- 3 meaningful terms
Singtagmatic relation
Rhetoric

Main features of the event:
Composition: format orientation, diagram and reticule

Design determiners:
selecting the image style
color
fonts
graphic elements
Graphems
Visual rhetoric
Semiotics
Advertising: message alignment and heading
PNL

Final Project Groups:
Group Number 1
Mariangela Boscan, Claret Cuberos, Jennifer Drumond and Jennifer Godoy.

Group Number 2
Andrea Finol, Andrea Suarez, Mauricio Martinez and Jennifer Peña.

Group Number 3
Victor Aular

Group Number 4
Leonardo Reyes

Group Number 5
Henry Maldonado, Giovanna Hernandez and Claudia Flores.

Group Number 6
Emigdio Herrera and Vanessa Villamizar.

Stand 7
Maria marcano, Arnaldo Lugo and Patricia Zabala.

Stand 8
Manuel MarquezMaria Bravo, Gustavo Rosales and Naykely Parra

Stand 9
Marysol Rincon, Juan Calixto, Andreina Alves, Andrea Ochoa, Claudia Briceño, Eddie Hernandez

The exhibition of the projects will take place in Second Life. Each group must have a stand to exhibit their proposal for the campaign in world (second life at URBE EFL Center in SL). The stand must include the products designed as well as a description of the project. Include the names of the participants and their avatars.

Students will post their projects in their blogs individually: products, description of the project, individual participation and their opinion of the project. Images and opinions of the experience in Second Life. Images of the Avatars and their names.

Well, this is going to be fun! See you in SL!

Intro Task: Writing a welcome post

Hello, everyone!.. since everybody should be working on their first  post in your scoop.it this week.. This is an example you can follow to write your welcome to my Scoop.it post.

A. Read about Carlos. Tell about you.  (This is just a model.. feel free to add more to the different paragraphs)

Hello, I'm Carlos Delgado. I'm 20 years old and I study Graphic Design at Urbe, in Maracaibo, Venezuela. I live in the north-west part of the city.

I love comics, mangas, illustration, Caricatures and specially Videogames. I enjoy mostly RPG games like Final Fantasy and Persona games. I work as a Caricaturist for people around the world in the webpage Fiverr. This is the link of my profile: https://www.fiverr.com/tenjidesign/make-a-high-quality-head-caricature?funnel=2014091519313346919411760

I don't like smoking or drinking alcohol, I really dislike people who smoke in your face.

My dreams are living in Canada with my husband and have a print shop and an illustration studio.

I've always liked English, I've studied it since I was 8 years old, the best way to learn english in my opinion is reading on the internet, playing videogames and watching movies in english.

About Graphic Design and Illustration.

When i'm drawing Caricatures for people around the world, i really feel motivated by the different stories people have to tell about the caricature they want, i could be for a holliday, a gift, a business and many other crazy reasons, it's really fun to know so many different -and good looking and interesting- people.

My best ability is drawing Caricatures, Cartoons, and other Illustration, though i'm also good at designing prints.

I work alone, though i love the company of my husband and my brothers when i'm working or having breaks from work.

My best source of help is excellent quality data, which would be Good quality photos for Caricatures, good references for Illustrations, and accurate explanation for designs.

A couple months ago i realized that Drawing and Illustrating is my thing, it's my main source of work and i get better as i work so i really want to focus on that, not only because of profit but also because it's what i love to do.

You can visit my scoop.it here... http://www.scoop.it/t/ink-linework
